What Does $0-Down Solar Actually Mean?

$0 down is a financing structure, not free solar. Here is what it does and does not include.

Updated 2026-02-10

A $0-down offer means no payment at signing. It does not mean the system is free, and it does not mean everyone qualifies.

What it is

A loan or agreement structured so the customer makes no upfront payment. Cost is carried in the monthly payment instead. Availability depends on lender credit approval, program terms and system design.

What to check before signing

The total amount financed, the term, the rate, any fee built into the financed price, and what your payment becomes if you do not apply the federal tax credit to the loan balance where a program assumes you will.

Solar production, bill offset and payment comparisons vary by home, usage, roof, shading, utility rate schedule and financing terms. Nothing on this site is a guarantee of savings. Pricing comparisons depend on system size, equipment, financing structure and contract terms. Any comparison is only meaningful between comparable systems and comparable financing.
