Upgrades

Upgrade or Expand an Existing Solar System

An EV, a heat pump, a pool or a new home office can outgrow a system that was correctly sized three years ago. Expanding is usually cheaper than starting over.

Upgrade paths

What can be added to a system you already own

Additional panels

Usually possible. Feasibility depends on inverter headroom, available roof area and your utility interconnection agreement.

Battery retrofit

Adding storage to an existing array, either directly or AC-coupled depending on your inverter type.

Inverter replacement

Aging or failed inverters replaced with current equipment, often improving monitoring at the same time.

Monitoring upgrade

Panel-level or system-level visibility so a fault shows up in the app rather than on next summer's bill.

Electrical service work

Main panel upgrades and backup subpanels where the existing service cannot support what you want to add.

Second array

Where the existing system cannot be expanded, a separate array on another roof plane, patio cover or ground mount can be the cleaner answer.

Before we quote

Three things we confirm first

These determine whether an expansion is straightforward or needs a different approach.

Ownership. Systems under a lease or PPA are owned by a third party, and that agreement can restrict what may be added or modified.

Interconnection. Adding capacity can change your agreement with the utility and, in some cases, the rate structure your system falls under. We would rather explain that up front than surprise you afterward.

Equipment compatibility. Inverter type and remaining capacity decide whether new panels tie into the existing system or need their own equipment.

Solar production, bill offset and payment comparisons vary by home, usage, roof, shading, utility rate schedule and financing terms. Nothing on this site is a guarantee of savings.
