Battery Storage
Solar Battery Storage and Home Backup Power
A battery does two different jobs — backup during an outage, and shifting your own production into expensive evening hours. Which one you care about should decide the equipment, not the other way around.

Solar is easy. Financing it intelligently is the hard part. See which solar financing pathways may fit your home, energy needs and financial situation.
Multiple brands
We are not locked to one battery
We work with multiple battery manufacturers and technologies. Available equipment can include brands such as Tesla, FranklinWH and LG, along with other compatible battery systems.
Availability varies by product, supply and project, so not every model is available for every job. We confirm what can actually be sourced and installed for your specific configuration before recommending anything — and we tell you why one option fits your home better than another.

Battery comparison
The right battery depends on seven things
Any company that recommends a specific battery before asking these questions is selling inventory, not designing a system.
Energy usage
How many kilowatt-hours you use, and — just as important — when you use them across the day.
Backup requirements
Whole-home backup or a defined set of essential circuits. This single decision changes cost more than the brand does.
System size
How much solar you have or plan to install, and how much surplus is available to recharge storage each day.
Existing solar
Inverter type on an existing array determines whether a battery pairs directly or needs AC coupling.
Budget
Storage can be phased. A system designed today for a later battery retrofit costs less than retrofitting one that was not.
Electrical configuration
Main panel capacity, service size and whether a backup subpanel is required for the circuits you want covered.
Desired backup duration
A few hours of essentials is a different project than multi-day resilience for a well pump and cooling.
Retrofits
Adding a battery to an existing solar system
In most cases it is possible. We check three things first.
Your inverter type, your main panel capacity and backup scope, and whether the existing system is owned outright or held under a lease or PPA by a third party — third-party agreements can restrict what may be added.
If your system was installed by another company, that is fine. We work on other companies' systems regularly, including ones whose installer is no longer in business.
Solar production, bill offset and payment comparisons vary by home, usage, roof, shading, utility rate schedule and financing terms. Nothing on this site is a guarantee of savings.
