What To Do If Your Solar Panels Stop Producing

A step-by-step checklist before you call anyone about a solar system that quit.

Updated 2026-02-10

Most sudden production losses trace back to a small number of causes, and a few of them you can check yourself in ten minutes.

Check these first

Look at the inverter for fault lights or an error code. Confirm the AC disconnect and the solar breaker in your main panel are on. Check whether your monitoring app simply lost its internet connection — a dead app does not always mean a dead system.

When to call for service

Persistent inverter faults, a string or section reading zero, visible damage after a storm, burning smells or discoloration at any electrical connection. Stop and call rather than investigating on the roof yourself.

We repair systems installed by other companies, including systems whose original installer is no longer in business.

Solar production, bill offset and payment comparisons vary by home, usage, roof, shading, utility rate schedule and financing terms. Nothing on this site is a guarantee of savings. Pricing comparisons depend on system size, equipment, financing structure and contract terms. Any comparison is only meaningful between comparable systems and comparable financing.
